Christmas in the Heartland Part 1

We are celebrating Christmas and we are celebrating it in community, as a group of believers who have agreed together to carry our the great commission and live the great commandment in a world that hates our God and His Word.

In 1843 Charles Dickens wrote a book that would become very popular, even 170 years later. “A Christmas Carol”. Later in 1859 he would write the book, “The Tale of Two Cities”. In that book, we find the quote that pretty much depicts how it was for believers in Jerusalem at this time.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of skepticism, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us…”
-Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

This quote shows the struggle of humanity in a world that is failing and a Savior that is saving. It describes well what was happening in Jerusalem and the surrounding area at the time. It shows exactly how things are in our culture today!!
